Wataneya Society for the Development of Orphanages is an Egyptian non-governmental organization dedicated to improving conditions for children outside of parental care, providing them the safe and healthy environment they need to grow into successful individuals. To that end, Wataneya helps institutional homes improve the level of support they provide through the implementation of a set of standards for alternative childcare, which were approved by the government in 2014 to serve as the benchmark for quality service in the field.

National Alternative Childcare Standards

The national quality standards for alternative childcare were drafted by Wataneya and other NGOs in 2008, and approved by the Ministry of Social Solidarity in 2014 to serve as the benchmark for quality service in the field.

About the Amaan Learning and Development Center

 

Wataneya Society established the Amaan Learning and Development Center in 2009 to offer specialized training in alternative child care and protection. The institute was received accreditation from international awarding body Pearsonin 2012 to offer professional certifications in child care and development. In 2016, Pearson recognized Amaan as a hub for learners and young professionals in the field, as well as volunteers and sponsors looking to further their reach.

Courses tailored specifically to caregivers provide them with the tools they need to create a healthy and nurturing environment for growing children, using techniques based on studies and research.

Courses tailored to supervisors, which prepare them for management and equip them with the skills they need to ensure consistency in delivering quality care.

Advanced Caregiver Training

This Pearson-accredited program was designed specifically for institutional care providers who deal directly with youth up to 18 years of age. Over the course of 10 weekly sessions, alternative caregivers gain the knowledge and skills necessary to cater to every aspect of child care and development, whether physical, mental or emotional.

Caregiver Program (for carers of children up to 12 years old)

This 12-week program teaches caregivers about the specifics of raising children from birth and through their pre-teen years (up to 12 years old). Caregivers are trained on everything from what constitutes proper nutrition, to using different learning tools and creating a positive atmosphere that can reinforce children’s development and boost their confidence.
