Salma Khalil

Marketing & Communications Manager

Graduated from Faculty of Al-Alsun in 2004, then worked in the tourism field. After spending several years in the travel industry, she shifted to the marketing field; a field that she has always had the passion for. She started at Diwan bookstores; a famous book chain in Egypt where she got immediately involved in designing the company’s marketing strategic plan, and revamped the marketing activities to fulfill the vision to make Diwan more accessible to wider customer segments and marketing for several years.

The experience with Diwan has made her appreciate the idea of working in a startup dynamic environment and that is the reason why she joined GESR social business Incubator. GESR is one of Misr El Kheir foundation’s programs to support social entrepreneurship through pre-incubation and incubation programs that invests in socially driven innovative technological solutions. Working with social entrepreneurs and startups made her realize that youth are the basis of societies and that supporting and developing them is an essential role for the community, private and civil society organizations.

After that, she landed her position at Wataneya Society as a marketing and communications manager, an organization developing the main 3 pillars of the alternative care system in Egypt; care homes, youth and after care, and alternative families. At Wataneya she found that the cause of orphan youth and children are one of the less known causes and sectors in Egypt. So it is becoming a great focus of her work to shed the light on children and youth rights and youth transition from care homes and how the process can be smooth taking into account developing a healthy ecosystem of care homes, caregivers, supporting private civil society organizations.

Throughout her journey, she obtained several certificates in business and project management fields. They really deepened her knowledge in different business aspects.  She believes that development begins when leaving the safe zone, and that every person has the right for an .opportunity to live better, develop, and learn
